Travel in a modern comfortable coach through some of the most picturesque countryside Tasmania has to offer, before you reach the historic village of Richmond. This village is lined with some very interesting stone cottages and buildings originally built by our convict settlers. You will have time here to explore this historically rich town, including the bridge, the old gaol and the small cottages. Browse the many speciality boutique shops, wonderful art galleries and have a relaxing and welcome coffee and scrumptious cake for afternoon tea at one of the lovely cafes or restaurants.
You’ll next travel to the well-established, fun and informative, multi-award winning Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, overlooking the beautiful Brighton Valley. Spend quality time with some of Australia’s most fascinating native animals, such as our wonderful ‘Tassie’ Devil. The huge purpose built devil run comfortably houses up to 15 devils, and stretches from one end of the sanctuary to the other. The sanctuary’s keepers are very proud of to be part of this very worthwhile conservation project and are extremely happy to answer any questions you may have while you are there. Keepers develop a strong, long lasting bond with these misunderstood critters; in fact, keepers say these little devils are just like us and depending on their mood, can be hilariously comical, grumpy, incredibly sweet, mischievous or terribly sooky.
Learn the funny little habits and peculiarities of our other native animals, such as the cute cuddly koalas, quolls, wombats and sugar gliders. Delight in the spectacle of the colourful birdlife and watch the funny little echidna, as he waddles around looking for his daily treats.
After your fun with the animals at Bonorong, you’ll arrive back at the Brooke Street Pier, Hobart to complete your day.
